Rare Jazz Vinyl An Introduction
Following the standards set by the Recording Industry Association of America, vinyl records were made with grooves on both sides, hence, kicking off the term “side b”. a twelve inch vinyl record is actually 302millimeters in dimension and it has to be run in a standard speed to get the right tempo and tone of the recorded music. In the early 1970’s, as an answer to the increasing cost of the production of vinyl records, RCA Victor manufactured a thinner vinyl record called Dynaflex. This made the fabrication of vinyl records cheaper.
Though durable and does not easily break, vinyl records are easily scratched though. And when grazed, the damage is permanent. And that is the reason why it is such a joy to see rare jazz vinyl maintained to mint condition. And to top this off, vinyl records are easily affected by extreme heat. Normally they melt and become entirely unplayable. It is a pity most of the music in the past that were recorded originally in vinyl were not save in that format anymore, considering the brittleness and sensitivity of the vinyl record. Rare jazz vinyl are very few and if there are, they would really command a high price.
It is a pity that most of the kids today will never be able to experience the haunting music rare jazz vinyl records make. They would not be able to listen to Derek Bailey, Albert Ayler, Freddie Hubbard, Stan Getz, John Patton, Oriental Wind, Duke Pearson, Elvis Presley, and Nat King Cole.
During those days, almost all types of Jazz were recorded on vinyl jazz albums. World groove and fusion, Trad jazz and swing – which is very famous for ballroom affairs, blues and vocal jazz, Scandinavian jazz, and of course modern jazz. There are still a few of rare jazz vinyl in tiptop condition being sold around. Some of the most rare and popular are being auctioned, but if you really are a fan of rare jazz vinyl, you may want to search for those jazz albums in vinyl that can still be played without a hitch. There a few sites that still sell these rare albums and they have a long list of jazz vinyl records.
It is wonderful that a few people had the initiative of storing these records in dry places so that their quality remains in tact and their playability retained. Visit these sites and you may find the rare jazz vinyl that you have been searching for all these years. Whether it is Louis Armstrong or Dianne Schuur, rare jazz vinyl will always be there to remind us how music was played back then.
