Vinyl records nowadays is more popular than you may think, since of the new technologies used by the people to listen the sounds. For all you know, there are still millions of people who prefer the sound of vinyl records than CDs. Most claim that the audio of the vinyl is uncompressed and has better quality if the right equipment is used. But of course, CDs are more convenient than vinyl and easy to purchase. CDs are more portable and more scratch-resistant.
Today’s generation of young adult and teenagers prefers the CD because of the trend. But there are those ages 16-22 who have large collection of vinyl because they discovered that the sounds are clearer if it is free from dust and scratches. Some may say it’s too old fashioned to choose vinyl but for those who have passion for real music, they like the vinyl record more than the CD.
There are a number of stores that don’t sell CDs alone; you can also find good vinyl records. In 2004, it was reported that a record company had about $500 million sales of new vinyl records. Because of this, more records companies are encouraged to produce good quality vinyl records.
Before, “78” is the term used for the old records and these are made of shellac, and they are extremely fragile and easy to break. For these reasons, records now are made up of vinyl. These are amazingly flexible and are less likely to break. Extreme care must be done in handling this because this is not scratch proof.
For best buy of the vinyl records, choose now the “LP” or “Long Play” which replaced the “78” and is more durable. LPs is 12 inches in diameter and play at 33 1/3 rpm (revolutions per minute), this is the speed of the play of the whole record. The LP vinyl record usually stores about 30-60 minutes of audio. It has two sides and each side contains 5-6 songs.
Another choice of vinyl record is the “7 inch” as suggested it is 7 inches wide. They are also called “45s” because it plays at 45 rpm, slightly faster than LPs. It only contains one song on side A and another on side B. It holds one single hit song. These vinyl records can only hold about 2-4 minutes of audio on each side.
If you want a vinyl record that contains longer single song and play at 45 rpm, you can buy the 12 inch. It has the same as an LP it hold a single song but longer and because of the size it can have multiple remixes of songs of different songs.
There could be other options to buy the vinyl record, the EP or the “Extended Play”, it is sometimes called “mini LP” since it has lesser number of songs. The EP plays at 45 rpm instead of 33 1/3 rpm.
